The involvement and engagement of our parents, guardians, and families is critical to the success of each student and our school. We are committed to establishing multiple opportunities for our families to be involved in order to strengthen our students’ educational experience.

At CHES, families can expect meaningful two-way communication between home and school. We establish systems that ensure all families have access to information about policies, procedures, and expectations through:

School newsletters & messages
Weekly classroom newsletters
Parent-teacher conferences (at least twice a year)
Information and updates on Facebook

We provide opportunities for parents and families to access resources and strategies that support their child’s educational success. Families can expect:

Meetings to help parents understand school needs and expectations.
Guidance on how to create conditions that support learning at home.
Opportunities to build awareness of the importance of literacy and learning at home.

Families play an integral role in assisting student learning. We are committed to equipping parents and guardians with the tools necessary to support learning at home. Families can expect the school to:

Utilize parent/school compacts to support shared responsibility for student learning.
Provide information about content knowledge, skills, and expectations across all grade levels and subjects.
Share information on how the school accommodates different learning needs.
Provide guidance on transitions, including from preschool to elementary school.
Offer resources for parents needing additional support at home.
Host family nights with a content focus at varied times throughout the year.

We welcome parents and guardians to be active participants in our school. Families can expect opportunities to:

Visit a welcoming school environment.
Participate in community service, field trips, and classroom projects.
Volunteer in areas that support learning, safety, school climate, and overall school operations.

We value parent and guardian input in decisions that affect our students and their families. Families will have opportunities to:

Help recruit other parents for involvement and participation.
Contribute to our PTO that align their goals with school goals.
Share input, feedback, and support on school and district policies, curricula, and programs through various channels.

We strive to support teachers, parents, and guardians with training that increases their knowledge and ability to access important information about their child’s education. This includes:

Using data to identify learning needs for staff and parents.
Providing staff training on effective parent involvement, family engagement, and cultural awareness.
Offering training to parents and families so all stakeholders share a common set of knowledge, standards, and expectations.

Community partnerships enrich student learning and strengthen school programs. To build these connections, we will:

Share information about community activities, summer programs, and talent development opportunities.
Provide opportunities for community service and service learning for students and families.
Offer resource directories with community agency and program information.
Partner with local businesses and organizations to enhance student skills and family involvement.
Collaborate with parents and community groups to create reciprocal relationships that support families and schools.

We promote health awareness by linking health programs and services to student success. Parents and guardians can expect:

Training for staff and parents on health and safety programs, services, and policies that affect student achievement.
Education and training related to health and safety.
Partnerships with community agencies to provide families with health screenings, after-school activities, and access to resources and services.
